Pleased to have seen “Timeless Mucha” just before it closed (Phillips Collection DC). The graphic art of Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is well known, and much imitated, but I knew little of his life. He was one of the leading figures of Art Nouveau, designing posters and magazine covers…

Details of some of the Vigeland sculptures in Frogner Park, Oslo. An installation of over 200 human figures in granite and bronze, created by Gustav Vigeland between 1924 and 1944. These details are from the sculptural groups around the central monolith.

Last weekend was “peak cherry blossom” in Washington DC. The cherry trees that ring the Tidal Basin were a diplomatic gift from Japan, planted in 1912. One of several initiatives in that era to “beautify” the US Capital.

Pleased I’ve been able to see the Tamara de Lempicka exhibition at the de Young museum, San Francisco. An artist I’ve previously only encountered through single works, but presented here across the span of her career. More to come as we celebrate the centenary of Art Deco in 2025? #TamaradeLempicka
