I used to do lots of things, now I mostly attempt to keep small boys in one piece and get bossed around by a tiny cat.
We began painting the hall and landing last December. The plan is to finish painting it this December... I am in awe of these people.

Deportment might have died out but Pilates and Alexander technique are both still going strong. Family friend in her 70s who does serious Alexander technique would put Queen Mary to shame.

My dad did that with my hand knit school cardigan when I was very small. The trauma of trying to find a school cardigan outside of the school shopping season in 80s Ireland ensured he read labels religiously for the rest of time 😂

Laundry is forever a mystery, I think most men just don't own anything in the areas between "full spin at 40" and "suit, dry clean only".

Still not over the night TL2 tried to put Eldest's wool school blazer in the washing machine.

He was a very sweet and self aware disaster area, bless him. The Jaffa cake barter system remains in place among the ex-denizens to this day.

I mean I do too, I absolutely have a uniform, and I embraced the return of the baggy trousers with great joy, but I don't have the same skin and can't wear giant platforms any more, you know? But maybe if you have money you don't do the quality upgrade over time thing and it's easier to get stuck.

My mother and Auntie Anne reached the pinnacle of this in the winter of 2010, when fifteen minutes into this ritual in subzero temperatures the assorted offspring started a penguin huddle in the drive, my dad and his brother having already gone and got themselves another whiskey.

English fashion is very very in the 80s Laura Ashley weeds and has been for a decade or so now, it's not totally cosplaying, but yeah, some of it is just weird.

She absolutely refuses to mature it is extremely weird. Like, it's not that you have to cut your hair or whatever, but she just is super glued to her 2010 look. And the eyeliner was not a good look then either.

When the moving out skills come up I always remember L in Halls, who as the youngest only son of an Irish-Indian household was the most hapless soul who ever walked.

He would appear at your door with a pack of Jaffa cakes and "Girls, how do you very-basic-life-thing?"

It's a bit A-Level art piece. Nice thought with the flowers-falling-petals, not carried off at all.

Yeah, we made Baba blue-screen for a good five minutes by explaining that Granny is Mama's mummy and Nana is Daddy's mummy. Then he found out they have their own names and cried.

Wee man has been unfussed by either fact and now reports parental misbehaviour to the matching granny.

A situation crafted to ensure the British had absolutely no excuse to take back the Treaty Ports. UK governments tend to not be shy about where they see Ireland in the pecking order.

Well that's the point, everyone was very happy for them to have shit kit, and for them to not replace it. Had they actually seriously gone after up to date kit in the 80s and 90s when they should have, different story.
December 5, 2025 at 2:55 PM
Probably because they didn't have very many and couldn't afford to replace them. Pretty sure there would have been some almighty toy chucking had they tried doing the replacements in the 90s and 2000s.

Also, things would be substantially different if it hadn't suited UK to have air and sea control.

Unfortunately access to the litter depends on her not shutting herself in the living room while murdering the door stopper and to actually let someone know she's stuck 🤦🏻

Same cat could wake the dead when she wants fed, mind you.

I never realized how big a field it was until I started compiling our institutional publications per month and every month there's at least three about transdermal drug delivery!

Someone approved that! Multiple someones!
December 5, 2025 at 12:57 PM
To be fair, for a significant portion of the last 100 years Ireland couldn't afford to buy the kit and the ten years where they could, buying it would probably have blown up the GFA because the Unionists persist in being Like That.

Also, we don't even have the people who would know where to start.

Is your man on the end supposed to look like he's got his hand on his cock, or did they just not think very hard, do you think?
December 4, 2025 at 9:26 PM
Oh Lord I have a one of those. I'd have two of them if the other one had an attention span.
