I’ve already started reading it. Sometimes I think I’m grasping at straws, and sometimes I think yes, I gotta comb through every bit of strategy and intelligence. Low resource places like Plumas County, we’re inundated with information and totally on our own all at the same time.

I once created a flowchart in English of the Environmental Impact Assessment process for building a factory in the People’s Republic of China…back in the day when it was published only in Mandarin.

I do not understand why the wildfire mitigation strategy folks don’t use a similar strategy, but I guess that kind of legislation would be impossible today.

This is a super super wonky thing, but under CERCLA we do the functional equivalent of NEPA without having to do full NEPA because doing cleanup is urgent and time sensitive. One of my superpowers is doing the ARARs analysis - applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements.

So there are projects starting up very soon. And we have shovel-ready projects on private land in Portola that have been waiting for six months for funding to be approved so that needs to be shaken loose.

The thing that gets a little lost in that piece is the amount of permitting that is being done by the Forest Service that is long and painful and invisible, and then the projects get turned over to non-profit partners to execute, which is a lot more sexy and visible.

Heh…not quite. It started during the afternoon. One was loading water on a fire fighting train at Keddie and the other was doing a bunch of property cleanup on Butterfly Valley Road. In fact, evacuating Butterfly Valley ended up being a real nailbiter.
