Sanji’s body feels warm. Was he in pain? He can’t remember it if he was. He wants to stay right here, where the air is tobacco-sweet and his brain has at last gone blissfully quiet.

Something beckons him closer, closer.

Just a little more.

For the life of him, Sanji can’t think of a single reason not to obey. He leans in, folding his upper body over the taffrail.

Warm, damp air washes over him, touseling his sodden curls. The wind? Or the sustained exhales of the monster? Either way, it seems to carry a command with it:

Closer.

But before Sanji can give in, the world cracks open.

Yellow light spills over him—the sun—and brings reality with it: the pain in his arm, the heat of his flames, the terror twisting in his gut, and the desperate desire to survive.

All of it hits Sanji full-force just as Zoro launches himself into the beast’s gullet.
