Ablauf der durch massive CO₂-Freisetzung ausgelösten Ereignisse. Die Kurve zeigt die zeitliche Entwicklung der modellierten Temperaturänderung (y-Achse) im Vergleich zum Nährstoffgehalt der Ozeane (x-Achse). Mit dem Anstieg von CO₂ in der Atmosphäre erwärmt sich die Erde, und der Nährstoffgehalt der Ozeane steigt. Während der Erholungsphase sinkt die CO₂ Konzentration schneller als die Nährstoffe im Ozean, wodurch es vorübergehend kälter wird als am Anfang. Schließlich pendeln sich Klima und Ozean wieder in ihrem Ausgangszustand ein. Grafik nach Hülse, Ridgwell, Science 2025.
