I thought all royalty thought their duty was a religious one? Richard II seemed much more arrogant in his belief that he was divinely chosen and seemed much more shocked when he wasn't protected by God. Lear seems a much more psychological play and more relatable to me.

France wouldn’t need to come and defend Lear if he and Regan and Goneril didnt try to take power. France isnt invading.

I broke my heart when my mom didn't recognize me. It is so sad to watch my parents decline.

Regan thinks her cruelty is wise and moral. You can only hope it bites her in the ass.

Not me. I equate them with Cinderellas ugly step sisters. Mean spirited and manipulative maybe its a result of being raised by an arrogant dad but somehow Cordelia turned out ok.

We seem to find this knight comically relevant in a number of our past readings. He’s such a hoot!

I think the fool represents the rational side of Lears brain that is slipping. He clearly made a mistake giving away his power to his kids. I think he wanted to retire and have fun before he dies and well… this is a tragedy after all.

Oh dear!! My mom and I didn’t speak for 4 years but it was clear what it was about. My daughter ghosted me for 6 months and to this day I have no idea why. She apologized later but I don’t know what really triggered it.

I wonder if Cordelias response is more a rebuff of her sisters phony flattery of the King when she know they don’t feel that way. The king takes it as an insult to him but she’s pointing out her sisters dishonesty.

Is this the 2018 one? If so, I thought it was powerful. I should rewatch because I forget Cordelia.

King Lear is probably my favorite. Every dysfunctional family can relate! 😉
