I had such a fun time doing a double session in a school today, covering astrophotography tips + astronomy coursework stuff. The students were impeccably behaved (especially given the fact this was a two hour session in total!) and my day was made brighter by seeing my lovely friend Kat 😊

On 6 Oct the almost full #Perigee #Moon produced some spectacular #lunar #AtmosphericOptics. Very bright right side #paraselene (#moondog) with long #ParaselenicCircle fragment, very prominent lunar #CircumzenithalArc, #UpperTangentArc. Our Auroracam also caught a 120deg paraselene Oxfordshire, UK!

#VeilNebula complex, taken from Oxfordshire, UK. 70mm refractor, 0.8x focal reducer, #AltairQuadband filter + astro-modded #Canon1100D. Shot during summer, 45x120sec ISO-1600. I removed the stars before processing & merged back in at the end, but I need far more practice at that!

Thank you Mandy. I actually used the NASA Visualisation Studio images for this one. I use it to accurately check the Moon phase and libration for the date in question for all my Moon drawings, but I sometimes use photos as well.

This afternoon I had a lovely session in a local school, teaching a lesson on the Moon and how to create a simple lunar Crater sketch. The class was so well behaved, they produced some fantastic drawings and they had lots of brilliant general astronomy questions at the end 🥰

4 years ago I created this pastel drawing of the lunar crater named for #CarolineHerschel. From Earth it's a small crater with little detail visible so I used an #LRO photo as my reference.

My latest video on my craft channel was all about autumn leaves. I made two different resin leaf trinket trays and lots of smaller leaves in a variety of colours, finished with a bit of gold gilding wax. Watch the video here: youtu.be/GYx25Ihvmus?...

That's a beautiful piece of the mosaic. A few years ago they uncovered a large Roman mosaic floor among the remains of a villa in our village in Oxfordshire. It was lifted and currently in storage but I hope we can display it here at some point.

This is what a newly launched batch of Starlink satellites looks like on our #MeteorCameras. All night stacked images are from 21 Sept '25, Oxfordshire, UK. Behind the crud the cameras captured 127 & 160 meteors respectively. Fortunately RMS software is good at filtering out junk
star trails, numerous aircraft trails and a wide smear across the sky caused by newly launched satellites. Behind those trails lie over a hundred meteors

I absolutely love making #autumn / #fall themed stuff so a couple of weeks ago I made #PineCones two ways, the 1st were made from a felt kit, the 2nd with epoxy resin. Such different results but I love both! Here's the creation video: youtu.be/pFfLZ73jdTs?...
Collage of photos showing yellow and orange felt pine cones staged with a couple of bunches of autumn coloured flowers. In the centre sitting on a wooden log slice is a variety of different sizes of brown pine cones that have been embellished with a bit of gold wax. A pair of small ones has been turned into a pair of earrings.

Happy #WorldIridiumFlareDay! I took 234 #IridiumFlare photos prior to the final flaring satellite deorbit in Dec 2019. I have fond memories of tracking them down. Share your Iridium Flare photos below! #Flarewell #iridiumComm #IridiumBoss My longer video: tinyurl.com/3ruwjwsn

Happy 1st Birthday to the USA/Canada edition of the Stargazer's Bible, which was launched on 17th September 2024 (the UK version came out a couple of weeks later). I can't believe it's already been a year. I have loved hearing how much people are enjoying the book 🥰

#PastelDrawing of a 1% #WaningCrescent #Moon with #Earthshine. This is the slimmest crescent moon I've ever drawn! I was asked to create it for a ten year wedding anniversary gift as it shows the #Moon on the couple's wedding day #SpaceArt #MoonArt #MoonDrawing #AstronomyDrawing #PastelArt
