Is there an alternative to Big Tech’s control of the #SocialMedia space?

The Space of the World by @couldrynick.bsky.social @lsemedia.bsky.social offers a radical vision that counters the profit-driven space we know.

May need to add this to my #TBR list, though I know my cooler than me colleagues could not care less, or just brush aside the #tech issues because "it is so cool. It writes your stuff for you, blah blah."

And may still order for our library anyhow.

In "Communicative #AI" @politybooks.bsky.social, @coeckelbergh.bsky.social and I identify 2 ways to respond to the crisis of authorship with #LLM #AI: 1) put the author function on life support or 2) pull the plug & give up the ghost. We opt for the latter; @floridi.bsky.social goes with the former.

Chapter 3 of my (open access) book about machine vision is about the heated debates when Oak Park, a town just outside Chicago city borders, introduced Flock licence plate cameras. Debates have flared up again after Texas police searched Illinois camera data to track a woman who'd had an abortion.

If you're tagged in the comments, you may be contacted with a request to blurb this book, thanks to the monster list I provided, and for that I'm sorry. I think? Remember that "no" is a complete sentence. But you're all so awesome that I had to include you.
