The limbal rings is the same sort of thing as a scar or tattoo when it comes to customization in ffxiv's character creator.
You can change them at any time and are not the eye color just brighter.
Which is why they are cosmetic and not biological

I didn't, I really liked that it was cosmetic. Because it can be a big cultural thing or very important to the character for why they changed it or did it.
But if people want it to be biological, I ain't gonna bash em for it.
