It doesn't even have to be horror. If you've played a fair bit of Pokemon you'll get so used to "POKEMON used ATTACK" that you'll begin to associate "It" with an attack not going through (ie "It hit itself in its confusion!"). Or Fire Emblem GBA and crits. Small changes can be huge indicators.

But other times it's stuff like the Night Manor thing, which drives me crazy because it's such a good idea. People notice when things are off very quickly. You can do things like "make a room longer" or "change a painting" for scares. Instead you usually see the longform version (ie backrooms shit)

A lot of the time, it'll be like, recurring things in SMT (Baal's resistances in SH2 reference his resistances in SH1, Chi-you is semi-regularly the highest level random enemy encounter, Nagas in SMT1/2/if... drop the Kuchinawa Sword which they were sealed with in Megami Tensei 2)...

names or dex entries aren't really relevant. it could've been named "Lionight" with dexentries like "it hunts using xray vision attacking out of darkness" or w/e, but that's downstream of the typing decision. they've assigned types for less!
