A couple of examples of works I'd not previously come across - the first of a house in the Hebrides I think; the second of children playing in the Swanzey family house in Belize Park.

Modern American writers are great at setting their stories in some political and economic context. But Nice Work - set against industrial decline, university cuts etc - shows Lodge doing that just as well. Anyway - back to Ford and Independence Day for week 3.

I finished The Sportswriter 3 days late. Which puts pressure on my week 2 challenge - Nice Work, by David Lodge - who has just died. But what writing! How I loved his books back in the 80s and 90s....
