I think a pretty important flipside to this is… embarrassment! You can’t share human-made art without the potential to be embarrassed by it. Pushing through that “will people hate it” is , I think, a crucial part of making something.

Loved those sabbath cover 7”s! I still have this one and the Coalesce / TITD one. Non-sabbath but was just reminded how much I loved that Cave-In / Piebald split 7”… did you have that guy?

This was in Syracuse NY in the late 90s so there was basically a citywide ban on non-Victory record / non-overtly-straightedge bands… it was cool to hear something so far outside that but still hardcore

BOTCH!! I remember someone telling me to get the John Birch 7” when it came out… couldn’t *believe* “O Fortuna” …showed me these guys are on another level

Check out the Podcast called Dissect... they do a whole season on his album To Pimp A Butterfly and it goes DEEEEEEEP... I couldn't believe how much is really going on in his stuff (at first)
