And regarding “what you see is what you get”. True, he is following what he promised (in general). The results are just the opposite. I think he can persuade a lot of voters by blaming the Biden adm. for those issues. But a lot of voters will see through - and feel betrayed.

In comparison, there is only a small fraction of voters that has to be dissatisfied to shift the momentum of Trump II. Remember he did not merely receive 10 percent from his ‘base’, but the popular vote. A lot of “moderate” votes from dissatisfied workers should be a lot more volatile.

And despite claiming that “[w]hether the radical right will be willing and able to get rid of democracy is unknown”, the analysis in chapter 5 suggest that populists always want to hurt democratic institutions. I think he lacks attention to non-contemporary and non-“full blown” populists movements

Interesting! Yet, despite arguing for “[c]omplex definitions [that] pay attention to gradations and to the fuzziness”, he does not address what this means for populism. Fx he seems to disregard agonistic populism as intended by Mouffe, when he asserts that populists are anti-pluralists (chapter 5).
