Worked in Middle East & Africa in secure military communications. Jumped out of the rat race in 2001 moved to Cornwall 2 years later and took on a smallholding. My wife and I started a couple of businesses which got far too big so now I'm retired, sort of!
Thank you TA for an article about a part of the world I know very little about. Clearly that needs to change. Europe+ countries clearly need to move quickly to ensure they too can benefit from none Chinese resources.

In today’s Russian papers: “Budget revenues still falling, trade with China declining" & ”petrol supply problems in the regions.” Plus an interesting editorial: “In a situation where almost everything is prohibited, a little something at least should be permitted” #ReadingRussia
Russian paper points out that "almost everything is prohibited" in Russia

Maybe the Russian people without Putin and without the so-called Russian Federation can eventually be converted into a normal population and seek to be members of a democratic society. Germany managed it as have many others. Even the UK dropped the idea of a British Empire. Never say never!!

I totally agree, which is why this forum is so important. It couldn't exist in Putin's Russia or Xi's China. If King Mango and his MAGA supporters had their way, it wouldn't be allowed in the US either. Here we have an opportunity to keep people informed through free and open intelligent discussion.

As I have said before, we have had nearly 80 years of reluctant acceptance of Russia's expansionist behaviour as they hide behind their doubtful nuclear capabilities. The war against the brave people of Ukraine is fast becoming a step too far. Putin has overplayed his nuclear threat this time.

Russia is key to peace worldwide. Russia needs to be persuaded that an element of humility not aggression should be pursued following the end of this dreadful war. The peaceful success of post WW2 Germany must be encouraged as an example for Russia to follow.

When the war in Ukraine finally comes to an end and (one way or another) Putin is no longer a threat, the people of Russia need to accept that the days of empire are finally over. It is up to us and our leaders in the West to find the skill to negotiate and help such an acceptance by the people of

Bulgaria plans to seize and sell Lukoil’s oil refinery in Burgas, Bulgarian media outlet reported.
Sofia is drafting amendments to its legislation that would allow the state to take control of Lukoil’s refinery and sell it to a new owner.

There will in turn be those who will argue that it will be the final breakup of the Russian Federation that will expose the myth of Russia as a viable nuclear power. Only then can the world begin to recognise the futility of war and concentrate instead on peaceful coexistence.

Thank you TA for your thought provoking article. It would seem that the end of nearly 80 years of Soviet/Russian nuclear sabre rattling is possibly within our grasp. If this happens, there will be those who will be of the view that the nuclear fuelled Cold War finally gave us “Peace in our time”.

Trump is a lot of things and intelligent isn't one of them. One thing for sure, he is the most unreliable and ridiculous President in American history and the world can never be a safe place until he is gone and never to return.

The power is not from Trump, the power is from the United States of America. Yes Biden was far too cautious, however he wasn't and still isn't a well man. Trump on the other hand wields the power of a formidable nation as if it is of his own making. Well it isn't and that needs to be recognised.

I asked AI on Google.
"Is it possible to detect the source of crude oil by analysing petrol or diesel?"
Answer....
"Yes, it is possible to detect the source of crude oil by analyzing petrol or diesel using advanced chemical fingerprinting and forensic analysis techniques."
Good news!!

Thank you for your input. I didn't realise that by using chemical analysis it is possible to identify the source of crude oil. So sanctions are now more effective.

I'm confused. I never really expected King Mango's oil sanctions on Russia to have any significant effect on Russia's business with Türkiye, India, China, etc., but it clearly has. It's excellent news, but I don't fully understand the true reasons!

names of the various republics! Europe+ will be very nervous and definitely mustn’t allow Trump’s regime to have much, if any influence on the final outcome. I suspect China on the other hand will quickly act in their own interests, bringing their own surprise actions to a volatile chain of events.

Thank you TA, for an excellent scenario of what may happen when Putin’s immortality finally escapes him. I particularly enjoyed your rather provocative opening line here on Bluesky. One has to wonder what the Orange Idiot will do when this kicks off. How will he ever cope with all the lengthy

That is almost too bizarre to comprehend. Now with fuel and food shortages and price increases combined with power outages and winter coming, surely the predicted breakdown of Russian society must be soon.

So the reason must be fear of consequences. Unlike China or North Korea, the people of Moscow, St Petersburg, etc. have tasted the benefits of communicating relatively freely with each other for a long time now. Surely Putin can't keep the lid on things for much longer!?

Imagine if our government here in the UK or governments anywhere else in the West were to cut off the internet!? That would be the end. There would be rioting in the streets, a total collapse of law and order. Is this really happening in Moscow and St Petersburg without any public reaction??

I was very surprised to find myself agreeing with much of what he had to say, in particular that MPs are on (the whole) career politicians. They so often lack the life skills that we meer mortals experience every day. This feeling of helplessness is what the likes of Farage and Le Pen exploit!!
