Had a LONG day. I was lazy and decided to grab McDonald's for the boys for dinner.

Total came to $18.83

Phils will beat the Dodgers 6-5 tonight.

The Phillies decided to give the Dodgers a free out. As a gift. For free. On purpose.

In honor of the Phillies and Eagles choking this weekend, I have lost the first two games of the Flyers season on NHL 25.

Bad Philadelphia sports weekend overall.

Only the Union showed up and took care of business.

First, I was surprised he qualified for this box since he played for the St. Louis Reds in 1875. Second, Blong was thought to be a replacement for Cherokee Fisher for the 1875 Philadelphia Club but he stayed in StL

Today's grid. RS 3.

Charlie Ferguson was a terrific pitcher, but he became a more valuable batter. A huge "what if" in Phillies history.

"It is often written that the Cincinnati Red Stockings of 1869 were the first professional club, which we have seen not to be so [1867 Washington Nationals]. Those inclined to nuanced definition will declare the Reds the first openly professional club, which is not quite true either..." - John Thorn

This is interesting to me because with the Mariners I was thinking of the average years per postseason appearance. (Theirs is 8). It's fascinating to look at these between championships that way too:

Red Sox: 9.5
Cubs: 6
Phillies: 15.4

The Phillies were basically the Cubs and Red Sox combined!

Between 1918 and 2003, the Red Sox made 9 postseason appearances and won 4 pennants.

Between 1908 and 2016, the Cubs made 18 postseason appearances and won 7 pennants.

Between 1903 and 1980, the Phillies made 5 postseason appearances and won 2 pennants.

One doesn't get talked about.

Hmmm, another documentary about how hard it was be a Red Sox fan...glad ESPN really dug deep for that one 😒

Allegedly, there is a documentarian working on a Dick Allen thing. But I have no idea how real that is.

Outside of the team produced stuff, no.

Hell, I even got more than I bargained for when posting this.

There's a multi-part documentary on the 1986 Mets. The '93 Phillies were a very similar crew but it came out of nowhere.

Philadelphia simply doesn't appeal to the masses.

Especially if that pitcher was poor. Con Murphy didnt pitch many big league games even for a poor Phillies squad.

I enjoy that you know more details about Ed Sixsmith
mattalbertson.bsky.social
It was an exciting day turned nightmarish for Ed Sixsmith on September 11, 1884.

Sixsmith replaced Mike DePangher behind the plate in the third inning because the latter hurt his hand. Also note, three different Philadelphia papers noted 8 passed balls, not 5 per B-R.

The Dodgers and Reds will square off later today, a new chapter in a matchup that first took place in the American Association on June 7, 1884.
