Frodo should've hid the ring in a Birmingham resident's recycling bin, it wouldn't have been discovered till the Fifth Age

Oh wow, how was that Janelle Monáe show? I saw her in 2014 not long after Electric Lady was released and I remember her getting everyone to lie on the floor of Brixton Academy as she played (I think) Come Alive...

Oof yeah it's ridiculous. Those sites are the ones that pushed me to this – I can't imagine how shit the writers feel seeing *this* happen to their work.

It feels weird abandoning this principle, eg. choosing to hide the ugliness and give up addressing it when folks without the technical know-how will see their experience deteriorate further. I just wish publishers took more responsibility for the implicit contract between them and their reader.

But now, the web is so hopelessly broken and unusable that I've been driven to install a device-level adblocker on my (Android) phone, alongside the desktop ones I already brought myself to use. News websites, most online publishers, random blogs... all the sites are beyond broken.

This might sound masochistic, but to me, it was the same as listening to a full album versus listening to a "just the hits" playlist version: you have to treat it as a shared, consistent communication between you and whoever published the thing you were reading.

This is lovely writing Jack, you've captured it perfectly. Parenthood smashes you to bits and rebuilds you again, differently.
