A few years ago I went to the NYPL to do some research on Little Shop of Horrors, and got to flip through their file on Kyle Renick, who ran the theater where the show got its start. This photo was tucked in toward the back. No explanation.

I am once again asking if Bruce knows the name of the woman he's running against, or if he never bothered to learn it and now it's too late to ask

Anyway, I'll have lots more details about this handsome rogue's spicy history (and that of his indulgent wife, who you know as the Bride of Frankenstein and Katie Nanna from Mary Poppins) in my next bonus video. Join at Patreon.com/mattbaume and you'll get a notification when the video's live!

The bio is "Charles Laughton: A Difficult Actor" and that does seem to be an accurate description

Did you know the voice of Disney's Prince Charming was gay? Neither did I, but according to this biography of actor Charles Laughton, Laughton and the actor Bill Phipps were having a not-apparently-secret affair during the making of Cinderella. Good for them!
Text from a book:
Brecht and Laughton also seem to have done the casting them-
selves: a few emigré actors, like Hugo Haas, as the Pope, quite a
number of serious young Hollywood actors, acquaintances of
Laughton (Frances Heflin, sister of Van, for example), but for the
most part, in James Lyon's phrase, 'both Laughton and Brecht
wanted unspoiled, teachable, younger people.' Many of these they
found in the recently defunct Actors' Lab, including one, Bill Phipps,
who, as it happens, became Laughton's lover, a troubled but none the
less sustaining relationship. He played Andrea, though Eric Bentley,
for one, reckons he was overparted. In general, the company they
assembled was young, eager and talented. a photo of bill phipps in a suit, and a screengrab of prince charming at the ball

Bonkers. What is he saying, that there's no connection between progressive policy and taxes? He's literally campaigning on progressive taxation.

Time for another obscure media hunt: Does anyone know where I can find the 1940 Vincent Price film Green Hell? The only versions I can find are low-res with Russian subtitles or homemade bootlegs.

I suppose it could just be kind of a weird house. But why even have the door????

The Invisible Man is an iconic horror film but I'd argue it is, in its weird dark heart, actually a comedy. We're watching this classic on Twitch today, going live in one hour at noon pacific/3pm eastern! Come join us: twitch.tv/mattbaume
