I read a lot more indie stuff in the 80s and 90s. I’m a DC fan so I hang around there a lot. There’s just been a real decline since 2018 I’d say.

So like Godzilla vs JL etc?

Heard of Bug Wars but not checked it out.

Haven’t read a lot of “indies” for a long time.

Link didn’t work BTW.

What are you loving? What do you think is great, and why? Genuinely interested in your answer.

I know they seem to…but, how much do they really?

But it makes me feel sad that the “big thing” isn’t that good. But then again…there are few great comics now.

That’s the thing, these books aren’t exceptional from a quality standpoint. They are mediocre to slightly above average. And yet they’re selling so well. Part of me believes that it’s a hype thing. Or there’s just something these books are reaching that is not something I’m looking for.

What did you think? Batman was one of the ones I thought had stupid stuff.
February 5, 2026 at 2:45 PM
Definitely- he’s writing Action and he’s stepped in on the Flash for the KO tie in. While not interested in KO, Waid writing Wally, Bart, Max etc again is really enjoyable.

How far have you read? I only read the first 3 and I was out.
February 5, 2026 at 2:23 PM
That is definitely my take. I think Jeremy Adams cares. Mark Waid still seems to care. PKJ cares…I think, seems to at least. But the overall editorial direction doesn’t seem to. I look back a few years and a lot of writers who were good aren’t there anymore.

The Absolute U is just that, mediocre to above average. Some aspects are actually stupid. But it’s selling, unlike what I think are the 2 best books right now- Action Comics and Batman & Robin. They’ve even sucked all the fun out of the JSA.

And DC KO is definitely stupid. But also selling. 3//

…Additionally, they are trying to reinvent their mainline characters for a “modern” audience that won’t bite.
They don’t have any editors and few writers that really care about the characters.
And there are very few good writers these days. Some of the better books are just decent, above average.2/

💯

I honestly think they are looking for a new boom like the launch of the Silver Age. They are getting that to an extent with the Absolute U. It is its own thing with brand new versions of the characters. Like New 52 in a way, also a completely new Earth with no existing continuity…1

Definitely read the Venditti stuff if you haven’t.
February 5, 2026 at 1:55 PM
They dont want the characters, just the IDEA of the characters so that they can do whatever they want with them even if it’s out of character.

They want new…but forget that serialized fiction relies on an ongoing narrative about characters who have consistent characterization and personality.

I’ve been feeling pushed aside for a while. Barely hanging on.

JSA is certainly suffering. What happened in Golden Age comics seems to have little impact.
February 5, 2026 at 1:47 PM
Seems like they set up a Power Girl mentoring Red Canary situation…I’d buy that.

Oh…. Ok.

What’s this from?
January 31, 2026 at 4:20 AM
I was so bored with last issue, but I really enjoyed the Prime/ Lois storyline and the classic Legion was awesome! The 2 Wildfires is an interesting occurrence.
January 30, 2026 at 1:01 AM
Man…now I’ve got to figure out how to finance that show!
January 29, 2026 at 7:19 PM
I’d like to see more of these characters, but the KO thing is not where I’d like to see them.
January 29, 2026 at 12:20 AM
It is odd. And as a PG fan, I really don’t like it.
