Side note: Greenwich Village is just about the only part of NY you can replicate without digital set extension, because it has low buildings and T junctions

As a Brooklyn resident I would appreciate the faster download speeds

one last data point: other white-collar jobs have grown >3x faster in the period 1990 to 2020 (compare fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CES60... to fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CES60...)

I stand by the comparison — I think that in that in order to stay relevant, almost all professional SWEs will be using LLMs by 2030. I think we'll be getting much more done. But I have no idea whether there'll be more of us or fewer of us (I hope the former obv)

Sure, but Visicalc came out in 1979 and the adoption of spreadsheets was a 1980s thing. You'd expect any effect to take place in that decade, and compare against other white-collar jobs.

(Hand-wavy) yeah there are more accountants because there are more companies and more people. But a whole bunch of clerical roles have been removed
November 30, 2025 at 1:00 AM
Yeah, that’s kinda the point — we have fewer accountants, doing more due to technological advances

the latest LLMs might be to software development what spreadsheets were to accountants in the 1980s

If you don't know the domain well then will Claude Code might lead you astray, but if you know the project well, and are capable of properly reviewing code, and you understand the LLM's limitations, Claude Code can save you quite a bit of time.

I am a professional Visual FoxPro developer and there’s actually a vibrant ecosystem.

Where you have React, we have a bash script that reboots the server every 5 minutes to avoid a segfault in the order management subsystem.

Sure, it has its detractors, but nothing else is SCSI-port-compatible.

Yeah it was also a continuation of the "Trump is a changed man after X" thing which was a reliable centre-right talking point for the entirety of the first term

it was pretty funny at the time!

You just know some exec complained because their texts from Nancy were going to spam

I stopped eating plasticine after watching that

fun Britten fact: my godfather premiered a Britten work in the late 50s and all the choirboys were given a signed copy of the manuscript’s folio. He selfishly donated his to the Red House, without asking if I wanted it instead.
