Nobel Prize for Chemistry goes to a trio of scientists working on metal organic frameworks, or MOFs. But what is a MOF and how do you use it? Here's one application I wrote about earlier this year: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/analysis/...

And today we discover the South Korean government may have lost 858TB of data because one of the drives that got destroyed (amusingly referred to as G-Drive, even though it's nothing to do with Google) has no backup. Yep: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/858t...

Then, in a barely believable turn of events, a separate, unrelated, data center in the *same city* also caught fire last week. Also thought to have started with a dodgy battery, this time in the UPS room: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/seco...

Attempts to fix the fire-damaged data center, located in the Korean city of Daejeon, were not helped by a car catching fire in the car park while investigators were on the scene: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/sout...

They reckon it's going to take a month to get government services in South Korea fully back online, though reports now suggest even this is optimistic. A whole month without some pretty basic stuff working: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/sout...

You may have read about a battery fire at a data center in South Korea ten days ago which burned through a few server rooms and took down pretty much every important digital service for Koreans. The story continues to roll on in a number of weird ways: www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/batt...

Harris said we're "far from a Neil Harris finished article team" in his post-match today, and I really hope he hasn't become self-aware because otherwise that is spectacular phrasing 🧡🖤 #camutd

I'm nothing if not an optimist 😬 Think we need to commit another player forward, either by bringing on Bennett as a more attacking option at full back or by giving Pelly licence to roam - feels like he's under instructions to play deep with Ball

Kacha is gonna score today, got a feeling 🖤🧡 #camutd

Kouassi has been decent and Mpanzu is having his best game in a while. Ref is a joker.
mattgooding.bsky.social
Definitely a win here for us if we can be a bit more decisive in the box. Equally, would not be surprised if we lose it 1-0. Perhaps this is a sign we're watching two mid-table teams, ho hum. #camutd

I mean sure, but all the money in this area is from America (or Middle East) - European countries eg France also taking it, would be bold for the UK not to do so if it's on offer. Data center market was growing at 50%+ each year pre-AI, not mad to think that would continue on the back of cloud etc
mattgooding.bsky.social
Disagree. Even if AI turns out to be a bubble (a not insignificant possibility), the world will still need a lot of data centres. From a UK economy perspective, you might as well take the money and deal with any consequences later.

Why is no-one talking about the tech deal on here? Why are our political commentators failing to discuss an absolutely critical strategic decision which will all but rule out ever rejoining the EU let alone building a Green economy? Where the hell is the analysis on this??
mattgooding.bsky.social
We've been fine and are worth our lead, but not exactly scintillating. If Grimsby and Swindon are the best this division has to offer then we should be aiming for play-offs at minimum
mattgooding.bsky.social
Main thing this half has done is confirm how much worse League Two is than what we're used to. Grimsby are neat and tidy and, based on points return, better than us, but they look at best a bottom-eight League One team. #camutd

The whole thing makes little sense yet, judging by Oracle's soaring share price, appears to have just been swallowed as gospel by Wall Street. I don't get it.

For its part, Oracle needs 4.5GW of power just for OpenAI. I know everyone casually talks in gigawatts now, but where will it come from? How will it get enough GPUs? What will its other customers think? www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/open...

OpenAI's last reported annual revenue was $10bn. Even allowing for its admittedly rapid growth, how will it possibly have $60bn *just for Oracle* in 18 months time? And then another $60bn the year after. And so on. www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/open...
