Sorry to hear that Robin, hope a calmer Essen will be good for you :)

That’s really kind of you Erik - and yes I will be there!

Thanks for the kind words - and definitely good advice. Trying to find ways to regain that balance, lets see how they go!

I know a lot of other designers who are struggling with burnout as well, and my hope is just to help start and continue conversations about mental health in our industry, and steps that can be taken to improve it for everyone working in it.

Thanks for watching (and watching any of my other videos).

Today's video was a hard one for me to make - I wanted to talk about my experiences going through burnout in the last year or so as a game designer, and aspects of the wider tabletop industry that contribute to that.

Waypoints Map 5 is here, and we’re off to the North Alpine Foothills! Fill your whisky flask, venture into the great lochs, and grab your bike to make use of one of the many biking trails.

New Waypoints map!

Waypoints is maybe the game I’m most proud of. I genuinely believe it does something different in the roll & write space and love making new stuff for it.

If you like the sound of free form route planning then you should probably check it out.

Welcome to Saturday! You made it! It's time for this week's #connections #puzzle. It was a rather busy few days, so I didn't get a chance to do the early testing I usually do. I hope it's acceptable!

In today's video I go over things I learnt from designing 3 different narrative game systems in my design career, and how other designers can think about approaching new narrative games!

Props to Dave Neale and @philwh.bsky.social for being awesome co-designers :)

Still noodling away at this 18 card space combat game. It’s a slow side project that I tinker with every now and then but I’m kind of ok with that.
Prototype cards on a cutting mat. The card nearest the camera is in portrait orientation and shows a line drawing of a spaceship. The cards above it are in landscape orientation and show abstracted space locations.

In today's video I go over my approach in designing print and play games for Postmark games, the lessons we've learnt and what we aim to do for all our future releases. Also useful ideas if you want to design your own roll and write games!

“There’s no shortage of creativity in Vietnam. What we lack are bridges”: Vietnam’s blossoming board game design scene goes global via first Road to Essen competition:

A man in a red t-shirt stands on a stage with a woman wearing a long black dress and grey jacket. The man holds a large black and red certificate with a yellow star on, and a small golden trophy. The man is Thinh LeHuu, winner of the inaugural Road to Essen competition for best Vietnamese board game design. Long green and red cardboard tokens showing stylised cartoon versions of Vietnamese dishes, with their names printed in the centre of the card. A wooden die showing a 5 on top is visible in the top right. A brown cardboard player board for the board game Au Lac, with red, blue and green wooden cubes and meeples on. The board has spaces which show various resources such as wheat and wood. In front of the board a hand holds up five cards with Vietnamese writing at the top, each showing resources. The front card also has a picture of a boat. Standing behind the player board is the box for the game, beige with Au Lac written in gold and orange, and an image of an old city underneath. Head and shoulders of a woman with brown hair to her chin, parted in the centre, smiles at the camera. She is wearing a pink sleeveless top with what appears to be a yellow flower design on, and wears pink/red lipstick. Global Everjoy co-founder and CEO Ionah Nguyen.
