I agree. I had a similar observation. When I was there for Hands Off earlier this year I read est of close to 100k and this was much bigger. Every block on 5th was jam packed from 42 to Mad Sq and when I walked back up town and had a late lunch, Fifth was still full when I looked over at 33rd later.
