I often ask myself the following: did GR turn a whole crowd of readers (?) into a bunch of dumbasses with negative media literacy or is it just showcasing how illiterate people are?

just got to Paris Hilton’s cameo in The OC. it’s VERY hard to imagine this dialogue appearing in a teen drama in 2025, much less as a part of a celebrity cameo:
“are you familiar with the works of thomas pynchon?”
“i’ve only read the crying of lot 49”
“gravity’s rainbow is his masterpiece!”
