If you suffer from depressive episodes, I'd love to hear YOUR process for working through them.

Feel free to comment below or send me a DM.

Thank you for reading!

Here's my process:

1. Get silent and still
2. Tune into breathing (5 min.)
3. Tune into emotions/feelings) (5 min.)
4. Tune into the voice in the head (5 min.)
5. Repeat if necessary

By this point, the depression has often lifted quite a bit and I'm able to reset and move on with my day.

If not, I settle back into my breathing and start the process again...

Next, I'm ready to listen to the voice in my head with curiosity:

- What's it saying?
- Is what it's saying actually true?
- If the voice isn't true, what else might be true?

I take five minutes to listen without judgment...

Next, I tune into my emotions/feelings:

I label the emotions without judgment (i.e., "I feel afraid," "I feel angry," "I feel irritated," etc.).

Then I notice where the emotions show up in my body (i.e., my chest, my core, my neck, etc.).

I tune into the body sensations related to the emotions...

Next, I tune into my breathing.

Usually, I notice that my breathing is very shallow and short, so I take several deep breaths.

Then I let my breathing return to normal and following it coming in and out of my nose for five minutes or so...

First, I get silent and still.

I used to try to distract myself from the voice in my head with food, social media, televsion, etc.

This is counterproductive.

I need silence and stillness to move to the next step...
