the sushi shinkansen was an amazing variation on conveyor belt sushi: you order on a little tablet, and the train brings the sushi from the kitchen directly to your table (along rails laid across the top of the booths)

Bad news: doing so adds white letterboxing to the top and bottom 10% of my browser window

Cool trick: you don't need to build an explicit interval tree at all – just walk through the interval endpoints in order and keep track of the current parity. If it's >0, then you're inside at least one interval.
