As someone who studied International Relations, it is utterly crazy-making the way treaties are treated in the media as pinky swears between pals rather than, according to the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, the “supreme Law of the Land”.

You might be underestimating the degree to which that is understood but is not so easily solved because tech’s machinations do work and US economic coercion on their behalf (e.g. Canada’s now abandoned digital services tax, Trumps recent threats to retaliate with tariffs in Europe on behalf of X)

After years of revelations of PRC election interference, coercion/threats against Chinese Canadians, and industrial + security espionage we are now having to eat a shit sandwich.
