The base isn't working for you, so it's not much of a recommendation, but the big expansion box is considerably more epic and like Twilight Imperium.
It is also a lot of rules all colliding with each other in tricky to navigate ways.

We "finished" in that the Axis powers conceded after Tokyo fell and Japan's navy would be wiped off the map in the subsequent next two actions. I don't know if I've ever FULLY completed an A&A game, but I'm by no means good at it
