#28YearsLaterTheBoneTemple is an excellent follow-up to Danny Boyle's return to his now classic take on the zombie genre. It maintains the heart and brutality that made his 2 films memorable while also allowing room for director Nia DaCosta to inject her own style into it.

Finally got around to catching #OneBattleAfterAnother and this is Paul Thomas Anderson at the top of his game. Absolute master at making a 2½ hour epic just fly by. Never a dull moment. The film is always providing something interesting and fun moment to moment.

The big extensive update is planned for February. Every single one since has been incremental fixes but seems like they've detailed exactly what they've been doing. Really feels like this should've been a 2026 game

So after a weekend with #MarvelTokon here are my thoughts:
Marvel and ArcSys clearly wanted to experiment with a new system of tag fighter to push the genre forward. However, they seem to be running into the issue of being afraid to scare off fighting game newbies with so many mechanics to learn

#ChainsawManRezeArc worked so much better as a film from start to finish than Infinity Castle did. Considering the level of insanity on display, there was no way this wasn't going to receive a feature film budget to capture Fujimoto's chaotic vision. This is just bonkers.

#Bugonia feels like the best mix of early and later Yorgos Lanthimos in all its weirdness while at the same time feeling like the most(ly) grounded film he's ever made. It feels like a Kinds of Kindness short extended into a feature film but with a much better script. This is Yorgos at top game.

#FantasticFourFirstSteps is probably the biggest surprise for me personally out of the whole year. I haven't cared about anything Marvel has put out post Endgame aside from Wakanda Forever, Guardians 3, and Deadpool. I've been extremely selective and for this to have delighted me is commendable.

#ShinGodzilla got re-released in theatres in 4K and fuck is it amazing to watch in there. Pure cinema. I saw it on VOD a couple of years ago and loved it but revisting it on the silver screen was an experience. I will never not be impressed with Hideaki Anno as an artist. This film oozes passion.

#Weapons is my (cautious) endorsement for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil. I was lukewarm of Barbarian by the end. This movie, however, had me locked the fuck in by its third act. It's compelling, unsettling, and, most of all, fun. It knows when to let loose without sacrificing the horror and mystery.

#TheMonkey has probably my favorite kills of any movie this year. Final Destination Bloodlines delivered on the buildup and payoff aspect of the freak accident but because this is a lot more straight up supernatural it allows itself to have fun with the absurdity and bloodbath of each kill.

Ninja Gaiden fans when a new game has more polished movement options, satisfying and varied defensive mechanics, and a new developer adding their own flare to the gameplay while honoring what came before

#Together is a solid entry into the body-horror genre with the right amount of jaw-dropping effects work. Basing the theme of codependency on the idea of two people physically, literally conjoining is kind of genius and the concept executed very competently.

#Superman was never a character I was particularly interested in, cinematically at least. I'm sure that's different in the comics but film never nailed it. @jamesgunn.bsky.social managed to connect us in a way I was never able before: through my immigrant roots.

#28YearsLater was far different from what I expected and that is awesome. The first 2 films were far more straight forward in their direction but with Years, Danny Boyle flexes how much he's evolved as an artist. This is a much more expressive and fresh take on a genre that has felt tired for years
