I'd say it's pretty generalized. Some people learn the exact procedure to do something specific, some others learn how the process work and can derive their own procedures, and thus can be more flexible.

The amount of times I had to explain packet return path problems to a CCNA certified person...

The platform is clearly designed solely for comment "haha so funny" and similar kinds of comments. Not the serious space we need to combat all the disinformation that goes there.

It would be easier if there was enough space to do more than just comment that kind of thing. And also can't post link sources or anything like that.

That's not new either, that's how most places used to be moderated on the Internet. The standards on Bluesky are about the same I remember from the good old forums 20 years ago when I was a kid.

Moderation isn't censorship, it's about keeping the platform nice and respectful and enjoyable.

FYI Apple Music recently started detecting root and actively blocking such devices. Seems like custom ROMs without root (like Graphene) are ok for now, but I'd prepare for them to start using Play Integrity for which the bypasses are on sketchy Telegram groups.

I think it comes down to all those platforms monetize based on engagement, just like with news. Rage bait generates clicks and views, so all platforms that is centered on engagement is doomed.

I can't wait for Loops and other federated platforms to come out. We don't need the algorithm.

Still do it because I don't trust the car's sensors. If anything they just make me second guess myself yelling about a parked car 2 lanes away from me.

An awful lot think it's still this kids app for dancing on camera full of gullible teenagers ready to flock to whatever is said there. They have no idea people on there learned to think critically and see through all the world's bullshit.

Bluesky is one in itself: github.com/bluesky-soci...

If you use Android: source.android.com

Microsoft: github.com/microsoft

Apple: github.com/apple

Any specific one? It's usually burried in some about page in apps settings, but in most apps you can see open-source credited there.

And those communities have been without borders since the very beginning. You're running code written by people from all around the world, right now, regardless of politics or actively being at war with eachother. It's a global community.

Your web browser, most of your Android, most apps you use, use FOSS somewhere under the hood. Even Microsoft. Even Apple. Together we all come together to make good apps quicker and help eachother make better apps, for much cheaper.
January 20, 2025 at 8:35 AM
If you have a SteamDeck, it's built almost entirely from FOSS. Valve has invested a ton of money into Proton so your games work great, serving their interests, but also sharing the techology back with the community to improve some more upon. It couldn't exist without the community coming together.

Is this what that one was about? 🤣

You realize one can appreciate their successes without being dismissive of their failures? We can take inspiration of what works without becoming an oppressive regime or sacrificing free speech. Capitalism could beat them if we wanted to, our oligarts just prefer to keep it all for themselves.
January 20, 2025 at 8:05 AM
Nobody's saying that. None of this has anything to do with weakening our millitary. We can appreciate their successes and get inspired without dismissing the bad stuff they also do. We're literally erasing the history of slavery in red state classrooms, we're not saints either.

It's still not nearly as censored as you'd expect though. I checked myself, VPN'd to China and all, went on actual xhs and douyin. If anything their douyin is kinda spicier than our TikTok.

It's good to be careful and critical of what we see, but they're clearly doing a few things right.
January 20, 2025 at 6:23 AM
Not that any news coverage of stuff happening on TikTok was ever really that accurate either, it's kind of infuriating if anything how much they just don't get it at all.

Their news coverage of the whole refugee trend is still the most neutral, unbiased and accurate reporting of the event I've seen. It feels like the american media is terrified of even mentioning what americans are find out on there, they just try to pass it off as communism propaganda.
