Meaningless reduced form nonsense
The idea that people always make the most socially optimal decisions with free money has not exactly borne out. And even if you concede that the point is that the free money is by definition the extra utils, well, then that's a philosophical claim that is not immune to attack

And there are good reasons to object to baby bonds and UBI as policy. The arguments for them implicitly assume that gov't should maximize happiness, and free money is the best way to do that. That is... debatable.

If you have money to spend, you should be trying to get the returns ASAP. Money invested in baby bonds that can't be touched in 18 years could be spent on public infrastructure, or direct subsidies to any human capital-boosting project (education, child care, nutrition). Or just UBI for adults!

The justices seemed so appalled that someone could be disqualified based on factfinding by a state trial judge--as if people don't lose their liberty, their homes, and their children in state trial courts every day of the week.

If it's a tradeoff between that and prosecutions of the authoritarian scum, then I would 100% prefer full-throated prosecutions. But if there is going to be any real energy spent on policy, it needs to be on gun control.
