Don't be distracted by the chaos. Trump’s 2nd term agenda will be more calculated than his 1st.

He's following the playbook of Hungary’s Viktor Orbán to crush democracy, silence dissent & entrench his own power.

Those who lived it say there’s a window to act now. Here’s how we fight back. ⬇️

Then call Congress and tell them to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act – and hold this Court accountable.

Fair representation – the promise of government by the people – survives only when we refuse to surrender it.
maxflugrath.bsky.social
Without Section 2 of the VRA, we'd be left with elections that appear free, but are rigged to keep power in the same hands.

Protecting fair elections is the only way to halt that slide away from freedom.

The path forward is narrow, but it exists – and demands urgency.
maxflugrath.bsky.social
The impact would hit the South hardest.

If Section 2 falls, states like Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina & more could erase Black opportunity districts – hard-won fair districts across the region.

It's the endgame of a far-right plan to lock in control.

A new @fairfightaction.bsky.social + @blackvotersmatterfund.org report lays out the stakes:

– 27 potential new GOP House seats
– 19 tied to gutting the VRA
– Up to 30% of the Black Caucus at risk
– Up to 11% of Hispanic Caucus at risk
– It could supercharge the GOP's gerrymandering scheme

The case went to the Supreme Court and Louisiana defended its map.

But when SCOTUS didn't decide the case and called for a rehearing, Louisiana suddenly flipped their position.

Now, they've joined the push to gut Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

This all started in 2022 when a court found Louisiana’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voting power.

The court ordered a fix: draw a second majority-Black district.

The GOP legislature complied – then was sued by non-Black voters.

NEW: Next week, the Supreme Court will re-hear a case that could allow Republicans to create 19 new safe U.S. House seats by gutting what’s left of the Voting Rights Act.

The far-right majority may finally be ready to finish the VRA off.

Here’s what’s at stake. ⬇️
Republicans could draw 19 more House seats after an upcoming Supreme Court ruling
Many experts are forecasting the end of a key provision of election law — enabling Republicans to shore up their advantage in the House, according to a new report.

Louisiana drew a new majority-Black congressional district to fix racial discrimination in its map.

Non-Black voters sued, crying discrimination.

October 15: The Supreme Court will decide if considering race to fix discrimination in political maps can be called discrimination.

Here we are in another Republican government shutdown and my Rep is home doing photo ops instead of in D.C. trying to help working Americans. I didn't think I'd have to run to the trumpets again but I am. I'm running for Congress because I'm not done yet and neither are we. youtu.be/OSOAPMl_BSc?...

Pro tip: If you’ve spent the last decade begging for a Nobel Peace Prize, maybe don’t rebrand the Defense Department as the Department of War. Not exactly a winning strategy.

NEW: Trump announced a ban on mail voting, 3 days after Putin told him to.

Besides being unconstitutional, it’s humiliating – the president parroting a foreign autocrat’s orders like a lackey.

The goal: block Americans from choosing our leaders and having a say in our future.

The recent attempt by Georgia Republicans to fine—and even jail—Democratic election board members for refusing to seat election deniers is a dangerous escalation of political games that undermine our democracy.

Those who don't respect our elections can't be trusted to oversee them.

Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory:

I cast my vote with one thing in mind: protecting democracy in Fulton County...I will guard the fairness and transparency of our elections, and that I will never surrender the people's power to private interests.

Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory:

My duty is to the voters, not to...political insiders…If I were required to simply approve any name sent over, it would strip away my role as an elected official and hand the people's power to those who are not accountable to them.

Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory:

Last Wednesday I voted not to approve the two nominees put forward by the Republican Party for the Fulton County Board of Elections. Serving as a commissioner means more than pushing paper or rubber stamping decisions made by others.

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett:

I have spoken about my objections to both of the...Republican party’s nominees Jason Frazier and Julie Adams. I believe they are...doing everything they can to undermine faith in our elections…that makes them unfit to serve on our Board of Elections.

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett:

Neither order indicate how any individual commissioner must vote…the order concedes: “The court knows the rule in this type of case (is) that the court can only compel the public body to act while it cannot dictate the decision that must be made.

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett:

Let’s be very clear, when the Board of Commissioners rightfully cast our votes in 2023 and denied the appointment of Jason Frazier to the Elections Board, we were not held in contempt for our votes...the Republican Party...[sent] us another nominee...

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett:

One of the main reasons I ran…was because I am committed to defend the integrity of our elections in Fulton County – the largest urban county in a swing state and a critical county in the fight for the future of our democracy.

Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett:

When I ran for a seat on the county commission I never thought I’d be facing jail time for doing my job – but here we are. Elections are under attack all across this country.
