Quick little update post for Personal Best. One of my first priorities after deciding I wanted to keep working on it after the jam, was giving the player character some personality. Here's a little before and after between "obj_player" and, who has now been named, Fuchsia!

OH YEAH, and to go along with this, I fully designed refs for the swimsuits after getting the initial layout sketch! Even though I knew most of these details would go unseen in the final piece, I always have a blast designing outfits!

A turnaround ref of my OC Samanatha in a swimsuit, dubbed"Sweet Citrus Summer" like an alternate costume in game. The outfit consists of primarily of a two piece bikini, sunhat, and sandals, with various accessories to accompany the outfit. Going from the top, the sunhat is wide, reaching far beyond Sam's shoulders, with a pink band around the center. She has medallion earrings, designed to look like lemon slices. They're gold on the outside and pink on the inside. She wears a pink choker with a stylized lemon blossom on the front. Her bikini top is a unique take on a ring bikini, with the strings in the center forming a lemon slice pattern. Her bikini bottoms are slim and high waisted, with straps along her hips that form a lemon wedge pattern. She also has a sheer pink sarong wrapped around her waist, slightly obscuring her behind and left hip. Her wrists are adorned with pink bracelets with strawberry ornaments, and her flip flops are connected to a pink band around her ankles by a web of gold thread, making another lemon slice pattern where they all connect. A turnaround ref of my OC Melissa in a swimsuit, dubbed "Seaside Strawberry" like an alternate costume in a game. Her swimsuit primarily consists of a sporty two piece, baseball cap, and sandals, with various accessories. Starting from the top, her baseball cap is adorned with a wavy "Sweet!" graphic, reminiscent of, but not quite capturing the essence of graffiti, with her ponytail spilling out the back of the cap. Around her neck is a pair of sunglasses with a dark red strawberry pattern and green lens, as well as a necklace with a strawberry ornament. Her bikini top covers her small chest conservatively, while leaving most of her back exposed. A green, strawberry leaf trim outlines the bottom of the piece. Her bikini bottoms are a pair of high waisted swim trunks, with the sides exposed, save for green straps zigzagging across the opening. This, too, is outlined by a green strawberry leaf trim. On the center of her top and the hips of her bottoms are strawberry blossom ornaments. On her left thigh is a green phone holster, with a pink strawberry heart pattern on the front with angular green thread tied below it. Her sandals are red with green straps reminiscent of tangled vines holding it together. Lastly, on her wrist is a diving watch, with the face of said watch reminiscent of a lemon slice.

Decided to use my first foray into 3D Modeling to design my ideal Daisy look. I've gotta optimize the model a bit more, but for now I'm pretty happy with this so far!

A custom 3D Model of Princess Daisy with a unique design. Her body is overall curvier, with thicker legs and soft knees. Her skin is noticeably darker, with freckles on her face, arms, and thighs. She has dark brown hair with orange streaks here and there. She wears a short version of her N64 Era dress, and a shawl with a pattern reminiscent of her modern dress' design, held in place on her chest by her flower emblem. She wears tennis socks and orange and yellow running shoes with a flower symbol on the outside. Her crown and earrings are identical to her canon look.

Started doing my first phase of playtesting to get some thoughts on the mechanics and the second playtester immediately discovered flight. How I did not discover this myself before playtesting, I'll never know, but I'm glad this was found and the fix for it should be simple.
