Focused practice is also really important. Every time I struggle with something, I spend extra time on it. Every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth.
Design a project around a specific weakness, try things that are a little more ambitious than before.

The thing that got me the furthest was just religiously watching tutorials and trying to make studying "fun." I would spend hours doodling silly characters with friends, giving them as accurate anatomy as we could manage just for the fun of it. I much prefer that to dry repetition and copying

I did take an actual mentorship at one point, and I feel like it taught me a lot, but I don't think it was pivotal to my development. It felt moreso like test-driving an art job? I learned all about concept art, and that was fun, but I already had a lot of skills beforehand

Using the term self-taught almost feels disingenuous with how many resources I've used.
I owe a lot of early headway to YouTubers like Sinix, Marco Bucci, Proko, ModernDayJames, etc., but also to everyone that helped to sorta "mentor" me along the way
