Our 18th century revolution was not a multi-cultural working class revolution. Only property-owning white males over the age of 21 could vote. It was essentially a patriarchal oligarchy. It has largely remained so, with the occasional brief progressive period like the one that started with FDR.

I believe it makes sense if one considers that this country began with the murder and displacement of the indigenous (non-white) population while importing slaves (non-whites) to do the hard work (for room and board.)
