I’m always hugely impressed by the commitment, bravery, professionalism & determination shown by members of our Armed Forces. I was pleased to be able to say a pre-Christmas thank you to them, while learning more about their vital work. These are dangerous times & we are fortunate to have them.

It’s my view that Cheltenham residents’ future council tax bills should be insulated from the impact of Gloucester’s financial woes. This adds further weight to argument I’ve been making for Cheltenham to retain a strong voice as part of the devolution & local government reorganisation process.

The authority’s finance lead, who took over in 2024, has warned that it might have been effectively but unknowingly bankrupt long ago. I’ve asked Ministers what this means for the transition to a new Council for our area.

Last week brought concerning news that Gloucester City Council is seeking emergency funding from the government to counter serious financial trouble. The council was subject to a ransomware attack in 2021, leading to problems with accounting and audit.
