According to them, escaping enslavement, teaching yourself to read, becoming the greatest speechifier on Earth & buying your own freedom, a set of feats that no white person has ever achieved, is DEI.
After finding employment as a laborer, Douglass began to attend abolitionist meetings and speak about his experiences. He soon gained a reputation as an orator, and was paid to speak about slavery by the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. This took him on speaking tours across the North and Midwest.
Douglass's fame as an orator increased as he traveled. Still, some of his audiences suspected he had never been enslaved. In 1845, he published his first autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, to lay those doubts to rest.
The narrative gave a clear record of names and places from his enslavement.
To avoid being captured and re-enslaved, Douglass traveled overseas. For almost two years, he gave speeches and sold copies of his narrative in England, Ireland, and Scotland. When abolitionists offered to purchase his freedom, Douglass accepted and returned home to the United States legally free. The Douglass family relocated to Rochester, New York.

Our freedoms are under threat by a corrupt president and Republican party determined to silence the voices of the American people.

Luckily, leaders like my friend @maya4rights.bsky.social of @civilrightsorg.bsky.social are on the frontlines of the fight to protect our democracy.

There is no place in this country for political violence. We can’t lose our humanity and we can’t solve our problems this way. We must condemn the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Thank you for sharing. We have allies in the military just as there are white supremacists there - a point I made. I know many people who join the armed forces because they can’t afford college, or because they believe in the service & civil rights too. It’s diverse & we must join with allies.

One thing he is very consistent about.

All of us want to be safe from crime. The Trump administration sends masked men who won’t identify themselves into our communities and claims it’s about crime. It’s an act of aggression against local leaders and against the hard working people who are now less safe. That is criminal!

“It is not a playbook on public safety, it’s a playbook on making us less safe.” @maya4rights.bsky.social on President Trump’s ongoing threats to deploy the National Guard to Chicago and other cities to engage in law enforcement.

Welch: Everybody's missing the point here. The point is, he's doing this on purpose. He's priming the public to get accustomed to having the military in the streets

Republicans are trying to redraw congressional district lines to keep their grip on Congress in the midterms and beyond.

Voters should pick their politicians, not the other way around.

Only dictators say this. Because no POTUS has absolute power to go after Latinos, Black people, etc. because they’re Latinos & Black people. That’s called racism. Hiding behind calling all of us criminals is also racism. Just racism masquerading as policy.

In the State where it took 2 years and federal troops to announce the end of slavery, the GOP controlled statehouse continues to seek racial exclusion rather than a free and fair democracy. We have work to do!
