Tonight marks the start of Sukkot, celebrating harvest and land.
Next week, Indigenous Peoples' Day falls during our festival. As we build sukkot and welcome others to our tables, we invite you to reflect and ask: What native lands are we on? What is our relationship with food?

94 million pounds of food assistance for Americans, cut mid-year without warning by the Trump admin.
.
Food that was already purchased. Trucks that were already scheduled. All canceled.

Combined with the historic SNAP cuts and canceling surveys to measure hunger, this is cruelty by design.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

Tonight is Yom Kippur, when we're called to recommit to our highest values. Instead, Republicans have shut down the government, putting food security at risk for tens of millions.

Mothers, babies, SNAP recipients, 47 million Americans struggling with hunger are abandoned.

What a disgrace.

The government deprived Indigenous people from learning about traditional foodways, using food to control communities and keep them unwell. That’s why the Indigenous food sovereignty movement is so important — it offers a corrective to the historical and ongoing legacies of colonial policies.

On this National Day of Remembrance for U.S. Indian Boarding School Survivors, we honor survivors and their families.

By separating children from their communities and land, our government deliberately cut off the transmission of traditional food knowledge from one generation to the next.

We're heading toward another government shutdown. Here we go again.

Nearly 7M women and children could lose WIC, a program feeding half of all babies in America

This isn't politics. It's basic needs.

Read an op-ed from CEO Abby J. Leibman from last time we faced this:
A Government Shutdown Would Be Deadly for Hungry and Food-Insecure Americans
Congress is barreling toward a government shutdown. SNAP, WIC and child tax credit help women, children and families—when they have funding.
