My latest: very tragic breaking news about a local man, Roland Hoyt, who died after he was found unconscious outdoors in a sleeping bag last week just a block from the county's new emergency winter shelter. It was 22 degrees outside on the night he was found.
A man found unconscious last Monday at a downtown Ithaca intersection appears to have died from exposure to the winter cold.

ITHACA, N.Y. — A man has died after he was found unconscious outside at the intersection of Tioga and Seneca Streets early on the morning of Monday, Dec. 2. The family of the man, who was homeless, has been told that exposure to cold weather was at least a factor in his death. Roland Hoyt, a Tompkins County native, was taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment after he was discovered by local law enforcement around 7:30 a.m.

County approves purchase of Cherry Street lot for new homeless shelter
ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Legislature on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve the purchase of a site to construct a new year-round homeless shelter. The roughly one-acre lot is located in an industrial neighborhood on Cherry Street on Ithaca’s West End. County officials said they hope to begin the design process on the 100-bed shelter by the end of 2025.
