The ghost of Betty, a reputed witch, was reported to sit on the churchyard wall of St Gregory’s, Tredington, smoking a pipe. In life, she would sit on top of a willow tree in Honington slowly putting on her stockings.

An illustration from the famed Reader’s Digest
FOLKLORE, MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF BRITAIN. Sir Berney Brogave drinks a toast with the ghosts of his ancestors. I believe the illustration is by Robin Jacques. (Artists are not credited in the book) Please let me know if I’m wrong.
An illustration of seven men in period costume (six of them ghosts) drinking a toast around a table. Described below.
TO ABSENT FRIENDS
Waxham Hall in Norfolk is reputedly haunted by six members of the Brograve family, all of whom died violently in battle: Sir Ralph was killed in the Crusades, Sir Edmund in the Barons' Wars, Sir John at Agincourt, Sir Francis in the Wars of the Roses, Sir Thomas in the Civil War and Sir Charles at Ramillies. A late-18th-century owner of the house, Sir Berney, once invited them all to dinner, and drank with them until midnight, when they vanished. Sir Berney is also accused of having sold his soul to the Devil

Leo Hell was a counter clerk in a Boston telegraph office. Leo was levelheaded. He certainly did not believe in ghosts. At least, he did not believe in ghosts at precisely 10.00 at night, at 10.05 Leo's disbelief in ghosts received a rude jarring. ~ The Ghost Legion, Kenneth Robeson.
