Look, this "dramatic break" stuff is simply not true. Domestic politics & geopolitics have shaped economic policies for ~forever, even as, yes, the causal arrow goes both ways. People have written vast piles of books & articles about this. An entire field, called "international political economy" 🤷‍♂️

"It is evidence of how domestic political & geopolitical objectives are influencing economic policies more. And that is a dramatic break from the many decades in which economics was a determining influence on domestic politics & geopolitics"

Stares, once again, in decades of IPE 🤷‍♂️

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

I've been banging this drum for the past four months or so: DOGE and Russ Vought broke the appropriations process. What's the point of going through the arduous process of crafting 12 spending bills, clearing them through committee and getting them through two chambers if Trump does rescissions?
vermontgmg.bsky.social
If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

In the starkest contrast to Pete Hegseth, Michael Dukakis is an honorable man & was a dedicated public servant, & 👇 entire episode was a shameful example of how deeply unserious our political media has been in covering presidential elections for ~my entire lifetime.

It goes without saying that the actual GOAT would not keep engaging in this type of nonsense:

LeBron created a whole news cycle around endorsing some liquor?

Now I love liquor so don't get me wrong here, and LeBron hyping endorsed products is literally his job, but is that really what happened? Is that what our sports media fell for?

“Democracy is a system in which parties lose elections”
mcopelov.bsky.social
The imperial presidency, created by both parties since WWII must be dismantled. Every one of the aircraft carrier-sized loopholes enabling the POTUS to act as a Mad King by waving his hands & invoking “national emergency” etc. must be closed. Democracy requires it.

All of these excesses can be reined in, if not entirely eliminated, by Congress—or at least by a Congress not under Donald Trump’s thumb. All it needs is the wisdom to recognize its own crucial role in creating this problem.

Literally unconstitutional; Congress has the power of the purse under Article I. Trump is trying to create a personalist regime where every dollar of federal spending is allocated at his whim.

All of this 💯

There is no budget deal to be made until the unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis ends, & all of the lawless authoritarianism & illegal impoundment is ended & reversed. Otherwise, it’s just successful hostage taking.

The quiet part out loud

Miller oopsie doodled and said the quiet part out loud, talking about DT aka himself having “plenary authority”:

A plenary power or plenary authority is a complete and absolute power to take action on a particular issue, with no limitations

Quite literally:

Tommy Tuberville on the 2020 census: "The Democrats were letting illegals come in for a different count. They obviously had a census going that was all rigged. The 2020 election basically was rigged."

(Believe it or not, Donald Trump was president in 2020.)

The unprecedentedly illegal & unconstitutional crimes are also linked to the unprecedentedly wild corruption. Every day, things that make Nixon's presidency-ending crimes look like harmless middle school pranks. But we used to have a functioning legislative branch, so what can you do? 🤷‍♂️
jamisonfoser.bsky.social
aside from the whole "that definitely isn't constitutional" part can anyone see any problems with Trump just transferring government revenue to whatever bank account he wants or nah?
