I'm a huge fan of Martha Wells' Murderbot series, but I'm moderately disappointed in the new TV adaptation. I hope I grow to appreciate the differences, but for now: 3/5 stars.

Currently reading Stephen King's 'salem's Lot, and just read a chapter that was a masterclass on building tension. I almost had to put the book away as it was freaking me out! (Reading at 1am didn't help.)

Now if I could just write like that.

Just finished Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life. What fantastic short stories that really make you think. Loved "Understand", "Seventy Two Letters", and "Hell Is the Absence of God." Great work. Highly recommend if you enjoy thought-provoking sci-fi.

Read Alex Grecian's Red Rabbit, and if you're a fan of the weird west filled with witches and demons, I highly recommend. Lots of characters but an engaging, intertwined tale. Can't wait to start the sequel, Rose to Jericho.

Just finished Sleepwalk by Dan Chaon. It's a bit out there: hitmen, cults, LSD microdosing, foot fetishes, intelligent chimps, and a laid-back protagonist. A quick review in the comments.

Happy pi day! To celebrate, here's a pic of an authentic New Haven pie. (It's not a pizza, it's 'apizza'.) Long live Pepe's, Sally's, Modern, ...

If you thought the Dresden Files were too happy and should be ten shades darker with cute lesbians and grotesque body horror, you should read The Dead Take the 'A' Train.

A quick review is in the comments.

My book club of 12 just read The West Passage, and it was a polarizing book - either DNFs or 5-stars. Some loved the absurdist grandeur while other lamented the lack of plot and character development.

What polarizing (not necessarily controversial) book have you read?

Halfway through Arkady Martine's "A Memory Called Empire" and totally loving it.

TBR pile? What TBR pile? Simply put, I had to get a few more books. Now, I can't wait to dig in.

What are you reading?

Working through the chapters and exercises of Ursula K. Le Guin's Steering the Craft book on writing. Really enjoying re-studying the basics and writing things in new ways. Highly recommend!

In the midst of the spooky season. I'm reading SGJ's My Heart Is a Chainsaw and have already watched Fright Night, Candyman, Army of Darkness, From Dusk 'til Dawn, and The Thing. I'm also rewatching Wednesday and have Poltergeist, queued up for tonight.

What are you watching?
