In my experience people generally think other people see the world in a similar way they do. Those that are convinced that everyone else is swinging the lead, tend to do so because they're more than happy to swing the lead themselves.

Sure, but reform voters will be persuaded to vote for welfare cuts that will be sold as hitting the undeserving, not realising that their party believes that everyone on benefits is undeserving.

I don't understand your ire. If they have Johnny might buy Ford and you definitely won't. If they haven't Johnny definitely won't buy ford and you might. This is what happens when elected representatives work for donors rather than the electorate.

It feels about as likely as Labour getting rid of Starmer because their opponents think it would be a good idea.

Then he ends up in Russia along with Assad and the like.
January 4, 2026 at 4:16 AM
While you're on a roll, maybe you could abduct the head of state of Russia?
January 4, 2026 at 4:01 AM
Errr... I guess I could pee on your head, but it's not really my thing.
January 1, 2026 at 2:36 PM
Okay, that's maybe over-egging it a bit. It's been as much true in times prior and will probably be equally true at times in the future.
December 5, 2025 at 9:00 AM
Good call. I think it never more true that these are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country.

Done right, that could be an amazingly depressing movie.

It definitely sucks, but have any of those nations considered being good at football?
November 18, 2025 at 4:36 AM
It sure will be. Though it'll probably be less embarrassing for her than standing for re-election in her seat and losing.

The mistake Gore made was choosing Lieberman as his running mate. If he'd gone with Kerry, he'd probably have won New Hampshire making the Florida result irrelevant.

Best to get a bit of the free money while it's going.

He'll be able to charge a fortune renting it out for weddings, corporate events, and conventions of foreign spies.

I'm guessing that it's because it was less dangerous than firing them on to the freeway.

The US has a long and proud history of being a dumping ground for Europe's nutters and wierdo's. The pilgrim fathers, for instance.
October 20, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Sure, that will definitely suck for the US. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that Europe would be better off without the likes of those that support Farage, Le Pen and Wilders.

Then again, America does have a history of taking in Europe's extremists and nutters. The pilgrims, for instance.

Death by interview feels a bit too Gen Z graduate for you.

Surely the very the definition of a "couldn't this have been an email" meeting, but at unprecedented cost.

I initially read that as "The world is a fireplace and worth fighting for." and I agreed with both parts.

That must be the strategy of someone that hasn't understood history or at least read The Handmaid's Tale.

A few years ago when the impact of social media algorithms on political discourse became apparent and people were starting to talk seriously about AI, I wondered whether anything would be different if there already was a malevolent AI super-intelligence influencing things. I concluded, not really.
