Today in procrastinating writer projects I pressed 20 pomegranates for 8 cups of juice.

Persephone got a raw deal for just six seeds.

Next week I turn that into wine. Then brandy.

Here it was back in April.

About six months ago I mounted a $3 staghorn fern to a deer antler/ skull. It’s coming along nicely.

A little wine helped me finish off the rough draft of my tenth book last night. I’m not looking at it again until Sunday, when we start the arduous editing process.

This is Greta, a former Tijuana stray who found her way to a SoCal shelter. She had a gimp ear and laid her stinky head in my wife’s lap so the decision was made for us. Her hobbies include only pooping in yards when the owner is out there to watch her. And chess.

Nine hours later and this behemoth is ready to rest at 150 for the next 20 hours. My biggest brisket was ironically my fastest at 9 hours. Insane.
August 10, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Eight am and the brisket is on the smoker for a serve time of tomorrow afternoon. At 19 lbs it’s the biggest brisket I’ve ever seen. Bigger than I needed but also 50% off so there really was no choice.

I shared this a few days ago but here is the bookmark my seven year old made for me. It pleases me to no end.

This is the first dead tree book I’ve read in ages, so I asked my seven year old to make me a bookmark to keep him busy.

It far exceeded my expectations.

I know a guy who has some and compared it to extra good Buffalo Trace. It looks like you can just get some Weller instead.

You might even say the price was slashed.

Of all the plants in my backyard I’m most impressed by these two sunflowers that I didn’t plant, which are growing out of a pot of rocks that I never water.

Rites of Passage got all Highlander on the other books in the Alcatraz library. Seems like a good time to remind you that you can get it for FREE through April 5th.
