I had a rich and wide-ranging conversation w/ Professor Philip Kitcher for the podcast this week.

We discuss his intellectual journey, interventions in creationism, sociobiology & the genome project, his philosophical evolution, and vision for philosophy serving the common good. A real privilege.

😢 In Our Time has been my favorite programme since I started listening to podcasts nearly 20 years ago. I loved the range of subjects and the way Melvyn Bragg conducted the discussion in clear and orderly fashion. Well researched topics, not pretentious guests www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

Well you just have to give everyone a good mark and they will be happy to have a UCL diploma 🎓

I have anecdotal evidence that some UCL masters have moved all lectures online (or rather maintained them post-pandemic) because they couldn't fit all the extra students they were admitting.

NEW EPISODE OUT NOW!

Today David tells the tale of the Dreyfus Affair that split France down the middle and revealed the grip of a whole host of conspiracy theories. The story of a letter found in a wastebin turned into a saga about who really controlled the country.

You convey it very well. But then what about the dozens of pages she dedicates to economic ideas? Was that necessary? Satisfactory (to you) to support her story?

It has been the honor of my life to serve as Commissioner of BLS alongside the many dedicated civil servants tasked with measuring a vast and dynamic economy. It is vital and important work and I thank them for their service to this nation.

Penrose: "The essential in the being of a man of my type lies precisely in what he thinks and how he thinks, not in what he does or suffers." Shapin asks rhetorically "What possible appeal could there be in stories about the passions and interests of people like that?"
