7. Bottom line:
RCTs show the Portfolio Diet reduces LDL-C. Our new observational work extends the RCT findings to disease outcomes suggesting the diet may help prevent premature❤️‍🩹death.

5. 🔎 Exploratory analyses suggested the inverse association with mortality was different across race/ethnicity groups.
This underscores the need for more inclusive research and potential benefits in underserved groups. 🧑🏽‍⚕️🧑🏻‍⚕️🧑🏿‍⚕️

4. At baseline, higher adherence to the diet was also associated with:
💉 Lower LDL and nonHDL cholesterol
🧪 Lower inflammation (CRP)
🩸 Lower blood sugar (HbA1c)
These findings on intermediate CVD risk factors align with our mortality findings → 💪our observations.

For every 8-point increase (33%) in the Portfolio Diet Score (PDS), risk was lower:
🔹 CVD: ↓ 12%
🔹 CHD: ↓ 14%
🔹 All-cause: ↓ 12%

🔻 CHD ↓ 18%

2. 📊 In our study (n = 14,835 US adults from NHANES III), we followed participants for 22 years.
We found that higher adherence to the Portfolio Diet was associated with:
✅ Lower CVD mortality
