Blue dot in a red state.
I think about this a lot. Future generations will not even have boxes of musty magazines to look through for a real picture of these times. So little is printed, it's all online or on television. Ordinary citizens need to try to add this context to what they leave behind.

Can't we just increase safety and customer service and passenger comfort instead? There's a gym around the corner from my apt if I need to get pumped. If I'm at the airport I probably just want to get on a plane that doesn't crash with a helicopter or something like that. Can't we have that?

These chuds. I've been harassed by people like him for nursing babies in public, I seriously doubt he's the lactation consultant that the world has been waiting for. We need policies that help women who want to BFeed but I don't think these weirdos are the solution to that.

Ok. Can we hear from some women about this? Or if they can't stand the sight of woman who is not barefoot/pregnant/baby at breast or all three at the same time, could they at least get a doctor involved. Women who are doctors would be perfect! Nobody wants to hear about breast milk from those chuds.

I'm not worried. If I crash and burn, so be it. I just want to see if everyone was right or wrong about me in my teens and early 20s.. I'm hoping they all had me wrong and I was always capable if I'd been given a chance. My therapist calls this a "restorative experience" lol.

...I was 19 and made one big mistake that cut my life off at a young age. You do what you have to survive sometimes. For me that was attaching myself and my future to the father of my baby. I literally did not know what else to do. Folks need to know circumstances before they judge.

I also wonder how old she was when she married. I was barely 20 years old, and 36 weeks pregnant, and he was almost a decade older than me. I believed everything he told me for the first 5 years. Everyone is attacking women who wind up in these situations...

So true. I was pregnant by an older man at 19. Married to him at 20. Had six more kids, was a sahm.
Now I'm 60 and starting as a college freshman next month. Don't be me.

I used to be one of those, but it was before social media was big, thank goodness.

I was in my early 20s (1990s) I walked away from the values of my midwestern Democratic upbringing to embrace the SBC and the GOP. My grandmother was still alive and questioned me about this and warned me that Republicans had always been liars. I wish she had not died before I woke up to the truth.

Actually, change wait to wake. "GOP wake" sounds good to me.

I knew a lot of parents who did not vaccinate their kids. I'm just glad I didn't get that brainwashed, though I did get too spooked by my social group to have my kids get the HPV vaccine, I deeply regret that now of course.

This was my lived experience as well.. When we were conservatives, specifically evangelicals, we made all decisions based on fear. Our church preached fear.. We homeschooled out of fear. We voted out of fear. I'm sure there are other reasons to vote for the GOP (greed, for example) but fear works!

Day old biscuits in my hubs family too. The cheapest canned biscuits to be exact, not the flaky kind..same principle applies to making dumplings, cheap biscuits are the secret ingredient there too.

In my husbands family there is no recipe. They just make it. They carry the recipe in their brains. My husband has yet to pass it on to any of our kids. I'm going to remind him today that he is an old man and better pick a kid or two to pass that knowledge to. He is the last one alive who make it.

When I joined a TN family after being raised by a Midwestern mama, there were many cultural things I thought they did wrong. Cornbread dressing, fried okra, sweet tea were the things they did right. Sweet potato pie in place of the pumpkin pie God decreed at the first Thanksgiving, was a travesty.

You think Emptywheel is a bot? Are you new to social media? You really don't know who she is? Or are you the bot?

I'm not sure I can be convinced to fly in Mr Duffy's skies, but if I do I'm wearing pjs and slippers. And I'm a person who DOES or at least DID try to dress nice when I fly. But not anymore!!!

This works for old people too. I was 59 when I left all meta products. Now I'm 60 and so much better off without it.

My husband was pretty dang happy by bedtime. We managed to get disembarked from our cruise and race from New Orleans back home to TN to make it in time for kickoff!!!
November 23, 2025 at 1:08 PM
My dude, wth? I just got off a cruise and I have no clue! I never even used my "free NCL internet minutes". Now I have to catch up.

This is the answer. Do it for democracy.
