That's an excellent point. You could argue that if they take a job as an MP, then any work required to maintain professional registration should either be gratis or, if there's a legal or technical reason that can't be the case, any remuneration is given to charity.

I also suspect it would considerably reduce the number of people putting themselves forward as candidates for certain political parties.

This is not a new idea at all, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it would go some small way to fixing our broken politics.

It would certainly reduce the number of chancers and grifters, but also genuinely reward and support individuals who want to get into politics to serve others.

MPs should be paid more. Maybe £150k or so. Could even be a bit higher. Basically, a shit-hot salary that almost anyone would be delighted to earn.

But they are not allowed any other income whatsoever. No other paid work. No donations. Nothing.

They have one job, one salary. End of.

There is a hell of a lot to like about Urchin, including a captivating central performance from Frank Dillane, and Harris Dickinson captures so much that feels true about London today.

However, there are a series of arty interludes, and a heavily symbolic ending that distract and add nothing.

The other week I flew to Copenhagen to see Francis of Delirium support Blondshell.

(They were not supporting on the UK dates so I thought, fuck it, go to Denmark, see one my fave bands and eat lots of pastries.)

Anyway, they were great. Would do again.

Surprising as this might be, I was actually quite a fast runner as a child and definitely represented my school at some sort of county championships or something. There were faster runners in my year, but I was maybe one of a handful that could actually go at a bit of a clip.

Ahh, thank you. I have seen the QI episode, and it gets repeated a bit, but there is no footage I could share in the article. To be fair, the interaction wasn't really interesting enough to end up on YouTube.

Isabella Eklöf's Holiday is deeply uncomfortable and disturbing viewing but, for me, does not have sufficient depth of storytelling, or even context, to make it work as a cohesive movie. Lots of strong scenes and performances that don't quite hang together.
