The highlight of the day is the roundtable “Overcoming North-South Academic Asymmetries: Diagnosis and Responses”, which brought together representatives of the five Maria Sibylla Merian Centres for Advanced Studies – funded by the BMFTR

We hope to accomplish that by strengthening the existing cooperation between Mecila and the other Merian Centres based in Accra, Delhi, Guadalajara, and Tunis, as well as the DFG Humanities Centre of Advanced Studies Futures of Sustainability and the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies.

A atividade conta com a participação da socióloga Márcia Lima e da antropóloga Jaqueline Lima Santos, que contribuem com reflexões sobre raça, gênero, cultura e mobilização política.

A atividade é organizada pelo centro Mecila, em parceria com o Sesc 24 de Maio.

Usando a metáfora de "mantendo a batida" como um pilar para o ritmo do ativismo negro intergeracional, ela observa como o contexto do hip-hop participa dessa luta contínua pela liberdade negra.

Neste encontro, a socióloga Patricia Hill Collins discute o conceito de “paisagens sonoras” para analisar como diferentes gerações de pessoas negras utilizaram a música e o som para interpretar e atuar em seus contextos sociais.
