It is a way to recognise your own agency and your own power. It is also, I suppose, a way to reflect on the stuff that is out of your power or control in a safe space.

I fundamentally believe the point of tarot is not for it to be predictive (while I do acknowledge that sometimes it can be). The point of tarot is for us to understand ourselves and our emotions better, and for us to be able to reflect on the situations in which we are.

Part of my appeal, I think, is that while I have not been doing this for forty two years (yet) I have been doing it a good while and I am fairly unshockable. I have lived an interesting and at times difficult life, I credit you with the depth and complication you probably have.

That she wasn't going to be shocked- she had probably encountered whatever it was before. And in retrospect, it wasn't a particularly shocking thing but it felt like it might be and it did really help to hear that. Anyway, to bring this back to cards.

Am thinking a bit about a thing that was really helpful when I was a student and going through a complicated crisis. I was awkward or embarrassed about talking to one of my lecturers about something and she said that she had been teaching for 42 years, she had by this point encountered most crises

Thus, actually, I suppose to reading was useful and revealing in some ways (I did point this out to him, having been thrown by it all).

He wasn't even asking himself if he really wanted another dog or if he wanted to be in circumstances where a dog was more possible than it was at the moment. He was entirely passive about the entire thing. And genuinely did not realise that this would prob not result in dog.

This, my loves, was a crap question because it was something that was both a yes/no question and was also *entirely within* the asker's control. Or if not that (obviously pet ownership depends on circumstances) he absolutely wasn't owning the bits of it that were in his own control.

So true. The reason I love tarot is the way that it reveals your own emotions and reactions to you as you do a spread - not just responding to the situation but showing you things that you might not have realised you were feeling.
