From a utilitarian point of view it may be more beneficial for the user to have a subscription model as it forces them to actually use the subscription to avoid waste, instead of shelving it for the time being. Though this is speculation.

For selling courses to employees directly it may be good to have 1 charge so they may reimburse cost once. Companies might like a subscription to give employees access and let rest be self-service, but I can only see this work with lots of content.
Individuals probably prefer 1 charge as well.

It is not necessarily always better to use fonts. If the character is not common, the browser may spend a long time looking for a fallback.
